How to Import Goods From China?
——–some importing tips for payment, trade terms and documents
With the development of e-commerce, more and more people searching and checking goods on the internet, in China local market, there are some big platform such as Tianmao,Taobao, Jingdong Mall etc. and the international one—alibaba which are allready a public company. All these has effect and changed our lifestyle.
Since I am in charge of exporting on alibaba platform for more than 6 years, and I find that most of the clients are new or the first time to search products on the alibaba, and know few things about importing. One question allways be asked is:“How shall I buy the products?” it is not so hard to explain and help them.
For importing the first step is you confirmed the products you need, for example—the porcelain dinnerware, most of them will buy some porcelain samples to check the quality and style, after confirm everything is ok, then they will place order, at this moment as supplier seller will prepare the PI for them, (PI means proforma Invoice),some clients will need stamp on the PI, it worked as the contract between the two party. In which there will necessary items listed such as payment way, lead time, trade term, and company account information etc. according to this PI clients pay the deposit usually 30% or 50% ,after got the payment, the factory begin to arrange production. And after finish production clients will has to pay the balance then loading the goods, supplier will provide the package list and commercial invoice and bill of lading to the clients, these are help clients do custom clearance when goods arrive, according to their trade term such as EXW price, FOB, or CIF ,to arrange shipping, this is the general way to exporting.
And I need to mention something for the payment way, ususally by T/T, western union or L/C for large amount, these are all confirmed between each other when place order. And many chinese supplier has no company account to receive USD dollor, and if supplier provide personal account, clients will also need to pay by their personal account, otherwise supplier cannot get the payment and it will be returned to the cleints’ account.
For L/C is a complex payment way, it will including many details such as compnay name, goods,Bank Account No. ,lead time, shipping port, and goods test, documents required etc. supplier need to prepare all the things which listed on the L/C. after goods finish, send all the docuemnts necessary to the bank, then China bank will inform the clients’ bank to release the payment, the bank usually will release the payment as soon as they got all the papers. Generally speaking, it is also a safe way to get payment, cause it is the trading between the banks of the two country.
